Hello, and welcome to Corey Lerch Tutoring.
I believe that everyone has the potential to accomplish great feats and do their part to make the
world a better place. Often, we face challenging obstacles that we struggle to overcome alone.
I’m here to help people triumph over their challenges and achieve their goals.
How I Help
When I tutor, my job goes beyond helping a student pass a test.
Every topic we learn, we review and build on the fundamentals that came before. Many students
today are victims of a test-obsessed education system that teaches them how to pass their next
test, but not how to understand and apply the material to future lessons. As a result, many
students start to struggle with subjects they once enjoyed, and they can’t figure out why. Often,
the student actually understands the current material, but struggles because of simple mistakes
from concepts they were supposedly taught long before. Instead, my students and I rebuild the
fundamentals alongside their new topics. As a result, we don’t just ace the test; we revitalize the
student’s confidence.
Every topic we learn, we also practice skill of learning. Learning should be a life-long pursuit,
yet our education system never explicitly teaches students how to learn. When I tutor, “How to
Learn” is the most important skill I teach. Every lesson, we go beyond how to solve questions on
a test; we practice thought experiments and abstract reasoning, and we connect the current
concept to principles from past lessons and “sneak peeks” of future material. When I do my job,
we create a self-sufficient learner who no longer needs me. That’s my definition of success.
I recently checked-in with a former student’s mother, just to ask how he was. I did not ask for
feedback, but I got the following response:
“Tristan does really well. He just started his junior year [in college]. Time is really whizzing by!
Currently a cumulative GPA of 3.989. I strongly believe the reason he does so well (other than
working hard, which he does) is due to your help at the right time. He thinks very highly of you
and often mentions just how much you’ve helped him, and how much he enjoyed working with
you. Math and science became his favorite courses after you started teaching him. I only regret
one thing, and that is that we didn’t know you sooner. I would have let you teach him all his
middle and high school math and science courses!”
